Bafana Bafana coach – Gordon Ingesund

Former Bafana Bafana striker Jerry Sikhosana pulled no punches in his assessment of the current team after they lost 1-0 to Zambia at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night (14/11/2012).

Chipolopolo outplayed South Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge and Sikhosana, who was nicknamed ‘Legs of Thunder’ in his heyday, saw red and blasted Bafana coach Gordon Igesund for his tactics.

“I listened to both coaches (Igesund and Herve Renard) after the match and I must say I was impressed with Renard,” Sikhosana told Football411.

Mr Jerry Skhosana shut the fudge up, I’m starting to get annoyed with some of the class of ’96, get over it gentlemen it was sixteen years ago move on or move over….

When Gordon Igesund was appointed as Bafana Bafana coach exactly four months to date (of this post), he sincerely asked to be given time and distinctively remember him asking for support from the South African public. Gordon has played a handful of games and yet certain sections of the media and fans are already casting doubt after the loss to AFRICAN CHAMPIONS Zambia at the Nelson Mandela challenge.

Zambia dispatched high-profile teams to win AFCON 2012, Senegal, Mali and the mighty Ivorian’s, so let’s show Zambia some respect as we got beaten by a credible team.

SAFA’s objective for Gordon is to reach the semi-finals of the AFCON 2013, that will certainly will be a daunting but not impossible task, we expect short-term success yet we still apply the same inept administration and organisation for the national team, case in point the pitch/concert debacle at soccer city, the scheduling of friendlies and setting unrealistic goals (e.g. qualifying for semi-finals for AFCON 2013).

Is SAFA setting Gordon for failure? The answer is YES, as we seem to forget that Gordon inherited a team from “Mr Pitso 800 000 a month” Mosimane, that is not capable of achieving the desired results. Gordon is slowly carving his team the way he wants, hence the discoveries of Dean Furman, Ricardo Nunes and Kgosi Ntlhe whom we would have not known about if Pitso was still in charge.

We need to get realistic about our expectations for 2013 AFCON, let’s rather use this tournament as preparation for the 2014 World cup (Qualifiers) and for the AFCON 2015 that will certainly give GI enough time to carry out his philosophy and master plan. Until then all South Africans including one Mr Jerry Skhosana let’s retract our knives we will start sharpening them around 2014.

Let’s learn from Zambia that good proper planning, sound administration, realistic expectations, patience and support from the public would yield results and ultimately create stability for junior national teams to filter players for Bafana Bafana.

So to ALL South African’s this is our beloved Mzansi we cannot afford to discard it when it suits us, let’s rally behind Bafana Bafana whether in triumph or defeat as they truly need and deserve our support, so bums on seat during the AFCON 2013.

PS> Gordon please do not pick players on form, pick players that are consistent with form. OH!! and SAFA stop this FTF nonsense your losing sight of the real goals.
